Abstract
Part of the session: SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT: Relational Dynamics in Supply Chains
We investigate how individual boundary-spanning activities benefit the organizations of the boundary spanners. Supported by qualitative and quantitative data from the automobile industry, where the relationship between suppliers and buyers is essential to organizational sustainability, we suggest that organizational trust plays a pivotal role in converting individual effort to smooth organizational collaboration. Specifically, the boundary-spanning activities of organizational representatives enhance organizational trust, which further results in system integration between the represented supplier and buyer organizations. In addition, collective boundary-spanning activities amplify the relationship between organizational trust and system integration, highlighting the dynamics between allies at multiple levels.
