Abstract

Dr. Kimberly Rowland, associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, held two workshops at Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter, Florida, for middle school girls from across the state. During the workshop, students studied genetics and behavior in Drosophila by conducting experiments and analyzing results.

This marks Rowland's fourth year participating in the summer Tech Trek project, hosted by the American Association of University Women. The one-week camp is designed to engage middle school girls in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through hands-on problem-solving and connections with women role models in the field.
