From Competency to Conversation: Applying the Core Competencies to Higher Education

Melissa Knight, senior director of the Institute for Achievement and Learning, co-facilitated an eight-hour Coaching Institute Day, an intensive, multi-hour learning event held as a pre-conference framework for the Coaching in Higher Education Consortium (CHEC) Annual Conference. Knight led with Jen Santoro Cleveland, director of the Career Center at The Citadel.

The session, "From Competency to Conversation: Applying the Core Competencies to Higher Education," focused on translating the International Coaching Federation Core Competencies into practical coaching conversations in higher education. Participants explored how coaching strategies can support student growth, self-awareness, confidence and success while addressing the unique challenges of working with college students.

The training also provided an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in higher education and to share practical strategies for incorporating coaching skills into work with students.
