Abstract

In an unreliable world, the one place you can place your money is on the fact that the American consumer gonna keep on spendin’.

Come hell or high water, U.S. shoppers continue to shop and they have propped up the retail industry during some tough times. And it seems 2024 is no exception.

This week consumer electricals giant Best Buy reported better-than-expected earnings and sales for its second quarter to August 3and raised its full-year guidance, amid a slew of positive updates that included Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle Outfitters and Foot Locker.

In contrast with Abercrombie’s caution over the remaining months of the year, Best Buy CFO Matt Bilunas predicted that the market would “continue to show increasing stabilization,” as the company reported net income of $291 million for the quarter, compared with $274 million a year prior.
