Retail Matters Podcast: Who Shops for You? Startups Challenge Big Tech to Be the Consumer’s Go-To AI Agent

Research output: Non-textual formDigital or Visual Products

Abstract

A new class of AI-powered shopping platforms is launching agents that can shop on consumers’ behalf. But they’ll have to compete with big tech players in the race to get the average consumer to use the technology.

Shopping startups are pitching their own AI agents that can offer product recommendations tailored to users’ lifestyles and complete purchases for them, too.
While people are already using AI-powered search giants to discover and buy products, these AI agents are not yet widely adopted.

Shopping platforms have to compete with companies like Perplexity, Google and OpenAI, as well as brands like Ralph Lauren, to make their agents a crucial part of consumers’ online shopping experiences.
