Abstract
Background
The current study sought to expand our understanding of the benefits of workplace safety climate, beyond that of accident reduction by exploring its relationship with organizational commitment. This knowledge is especially relevant for organizations in light of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Methods
In this study, the relationships among safety climate, safety behaviors, organizational commitment, and turnover intentions were explored through an online survey of adult workers analyzed by linear multiple regression.
Results
Results demonstrate that safety climate is positively related to safety behaviors and organizational commitment, and indirectly negatively related to turnover intentions.
Conclusion
In addition to the effects that safety climate has on the safety behaviors of workers, it also influences workers’ commitment to their institution and intentions to leave.
