Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

Harry S Truman's national security legacy, as documented here by Truman scholars and political leaders on the 50th anniversary of the end of his presidency, is marked by a series of noteworthy foreign policy initiatives. Credited with establishing post-World War II order, Truman's political heritage also includes the creation of NATO and the United Nations, food and foreign aid programs, the Marshall Plan and the integration of the US armed forces. Contributions from distinguished former aides to President Truman and recognized national security experts make this book an especially important and unique read. Highlights include a conclusion by General Brent Scowcroft, National Security Advisor to Presidents Ford and Bush and a foreword by Clifton Truman Daniel, President Truman's grandson.
